am i brushing right?

Q1 & Q2. How often and for how long should you brush your teeth?

The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for two minutes each time.

Q3. How should you brush?

While there are serveral schools of thought on the right technique, most dental professionals agree that small, gentle circles on each tooth are ideal. In general, if you're brushing all tooth surfaces, and not applying too much pressure you should be covered.

Q4. How hard should you brush?

150 grams. Most people apply between 200 and 300 grams of pressure, which has been shown to contribute to gum recession, enamel erosion, dentin loss, tooth sensitivity, and stains.

But how do I know what 150 grams is??

Zent Flex is the only toothbrush on the market with pressure sensitive, flex joint technology that takes the guess work out of that magic 150 grams of pressure. Check out the research.

Q5. Is electric better than a manual toothbrush?

In general, it doesn't matter however, recent research has shown that electric may be worse! A simulated, 8.5 year study concluded that with just 200 grams of pressure, Philips Sonicare and Oral-B electric led to significant dentin loss. Manual toothbrushes did better, but still resulted in some dentin loss. Since most people apply MORE than 200 grams of pressure, and often exceed 300 grams, they're removing dentin and potentially damaging their gums without even knowing it. It's kind of like using steel wool on a teflon pan.

So, if you're sure that you're only applying 150 grams of pressure or less when brushing, then you're all set. But if you think you're brushing harder than that, which most people do, or you're not sure, get Zent Flex and brush with confidence.
